Welcome Back to My Colorful Mess

There are moments in life that don't seem significant to anyone else, but to you, they feel monumental.

Today was one of those days.

For the first time in months, I walked into my studio, spread out fabrics and fibers across my table, and completely lost track of time.

If you've been following my journey these past few months, you know it hasn't been an easy road. Hip replacement surgery. Unexpected complications. A second surgery. Weeks of IV antibiotics. More weeks of oral antibiotics. Countless doctor appointments, lab work, and learning that healing has a timetable all its own.

Some days, just getting dressed has felt like an accomplishment.

Today, I spent over an hour in my studio.

Not because I pushed myself.

Because I simply didn't want to leave.

When my husband finally came in and gently said, "Isn't it time to stop? Dinner's almost ready," I laughed because I had completely forgotten what time it was.

That felt like such a gift.

If you're not a fiber artist, the photo below probably looks like complete chaos.

A studio table covered with colorful fibers, sari silk ribbons, burlap, cheesecloth, yarns, fabric strips, and mixed-media materials gathered for a new fiber art gallery piece.
Welcome back to my colorful mess. It may look like chaos now, but I already know what it wants to become. 🐷✨

Piles of fibers.

Burlap.

Sari silk ribbons.

Fabric strips.

Cheesecloth.

Twine.

Yarn.

Bits and pieces scattered everywhere.

But when I look at it...

I don't see a mess.

I see possibilities.

I see warmth.

I see texture.

I see a story just beginning.

I even see three little piglets who haven't arrived yet.

One of my favorite parts of creating isn't the stitching.

It's this stage.

The dreaming.

The auditioning.

The asking, "What if?"

The moment when nothing looks like anything...until suddenly it does.

I've learned something through this healing journey.

Healing doesn't always look dramatic.

Sometimes healing looks like taking a slow walk with my dogs.

Sometimes it looks like an afternoon nap.

Sometimes it looks like accepting help from the people who love me.

And today...

Healing looked like standing in my studio surrounded by fibers, smiling because my imagination woke up before my body has completely caught up.

I still have a long way to go.

I'm still recovering.

I'm still learning to listen when my body says it's time to rest.

But today reminded me that creativity never really left.

It was simply waiting patiently for me to return.

So here's a tiny teaser...

Somewhere in this wonderful pile of fibers is my next gallery piece.

I'll give you one little hint...

🐷🐷🐷

I can't wait to share the journey with you.

Until then...

Welcome back to my colorful mess.

Much Love,

Deb
