DJ's Fiber Arts

Creatively unique artwork from fabric, wool, yarns, beads and more
"NO RULES, JUST ART"
About Deb Deaton
I received my art degree from the Art Institute of Colorado in 1978 and have been creating art ever since. My journey has taken me through oil, watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, mixed media, and eventually into the rich, tactile world of fiber art. I began quilting over 30 years ago, and while I loved making traditional quilts, my artistic spirit pushed me further. That passion led to the birth of DJ's Fiber Arts (DJ being short for Debbie Jo). As an award-winning fiber and mixed media artist, I paint my own fabrics, layer with thread, and embellish using silk, wool, beads, paint, and natural elements. My motto: "NO RULES, JUST ART."

Creating fiber art is an intimate and intuitive process for me. It merges texture, emotion, and storytelling into every stitch. Each piece begins as a whisper of inspiration and grows through layers of color, movement, and meaning. The rhythm of stitching becomes meditation—a place where memory, emotion, and imagination collide. For me, fiber art is more than a medium—it's a form of connection. A way to speak without words, leaving behind a tactile trace of my inner world.

Today, I'm a full-time fiber artist who delights in sharing this passion through dynamic, hands-on classes across the country. My workshops are more than technique—they invite students into a creative space where rules fall away and true expression begins.

Deb Deaton
fiber and mixed media artist
I believe in channeling my creative urges in order to produce unique artwork using fiber, such as fabric, wool, yarns, beads, dying fabric and more. My inspiration for my work is the miracle of life. DJ's Fiber Arts is born out of a combination of my education, training and experience, which allows my perspective as an artist to remain traditional yet contemporary. Art is my outlet to express my creativity and uniqueness to the world.
