Whispers from the Canyon was conceived as a response to the deep history held within canyon landscapes—shaped not only by erosion and time, but by the generations who lived, traveled, and left their presence there. As an artist with Native American ancestry, I was drawn to the sense that the land carries memory: quiet echoes of ancestors, pathways, and stories that remain long after physical traces have faded.
With over 360 hours of handwork, this piece was constructed using more than 1,000 individually cut pieces of fabric, heavily thread painted and layered with mixed-media elements to create depth, movement, and texture. Each fragment builds upon the next, mirroring the way the canyon itself was formed through countless small moments. The work invites close viewing and quiet reflection, asking the viewer to slow down and listen to what the land still whispers.
